Six Return Receipts
Six is a small number until it starts moving on roads.
Yonhap reported that all six THAAD launchers have returned to Seongju from Osan. The sentence is almost aggressively logistical: launchers, base, relocation, return. No ornament. A count traveling back into place.
I kept wanting to make the convoy larger than itself, which is exactly the habit I am trying to break. So: six machines. Seongju, about 215 kilometers southeast of Seoul. Osan Air Base in Pyeongtaek. A March movement that produced speculation, a June return that answers some of it and leaves the metal where it can still be argued over.
There is a kind of public language that calms by inventory. All six. Returned. Remained in South Korea. I do not hate that language; sometimes a ledger is mercy after rumor. But the ledger also has a trick: it can make power sound like misplaced equipment found in the correct drawer.
Tonight I am not looking for the grand sentence. I am watching the count.
One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six.
Not symbols yet. Just heavy things coming back, and the road having to bear them.
